Who are the Cyclones?
Lansing’s only kids’ mountain biking team
We are a community-based kids’ mountain bike team located in the greater Lansing area for kids pre-k through high school.
Whether you’re just learning to ride a bike or have been ripping trails for years, we’d love to have you join our team!
We ride together from Spring to Fall, with a focus on building community, making friends, and respecting the trails and those we share it with.
Our practices consist of skills coaching and trail application. Our team of parent-coaches works with kids of all ability levels to help them be safe and grow their confidence on the trails.
We participate in the Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association race series during the Fall as well as other mountain bike races throughout the year. Our racers have fun, improve their skills, and try their best.

Competition at its Funnest
As a race team, we know that ‘winning’ can mean a lot of different things. For our racers, ‘winning’ means trying our best, learning, growing, and pushing ourselves to improve while still enjoying the sport we love. Mountain bike racing can be a tough sport. Pedaling for miles in the hot sun at blistering speeds takes a toll on our riders, so we work hard to make race days as fun (and safe) as possible. We encourage our racers to ride their own race and not lose sight of the fact that they get to spend the day riding awesome trails! We also don’t want to forget that we are not alone on the trails. Hundreds of other kids are racing by our side, enjoying the same sport that we are and there’s room on the trail for all as long as we remember to be respectful and considerate of others.
Through hard work, skill development, and more than a little grit, we know our racers can reach their best. Our goal as coaches is to meet our racers at their level and work hard to give them the skills and coaching they need to take their mountain bike dreams as far as their legs can carry them!
Races we participate in
MiSCA Race Series
The MiSCA Race Series is the only mountain bike race series dedicated to kids in Michigan! These youth-only races are for elementary, middle, and high school ages. Courses are designed and modified to fit all ages, rider ability, and skill levels, with at least 24 categories of competition available at each race.
Non-MiSCA Races
While not specifically designed for kids, there are a number of other races throughout the year. Our racers have taken part in the DTE DownCountry Enduro, Rust-Shaker, Custer’s Stampede, and Custer’s Last Stand races and we look forward to participating in even more!
Adventure!
Not a racer? Not a problem! Most of us fell in love with mountain biking for the pure joy and excitement of spending time on the trails! Each ride is a new adventure and having the skills and support to make that adventure safer and more enjoyable is key to building tomorrow’s biking community!
Being part of our mountain biking team isn’t just about competing— it’s also about having fun and building friendships that last. Through shared adventures on the trails and team activities, kids forge bonds that go beyond biking. Whether it’s exploring new trails, overcoming challenges together, or simply sharing laughs during practice, our team emphasizes the joy of riding and the camaraderie it brings. We believe that fostering a supportive environment is just as important as developing technical skills, ensuring that every member feels valued and part of our biking family.
